Virginia Darden MBA 2011-2012 Application Recommendation
Submit two recommendations from people who you believe can speak directly about your aptitudes and capabilities for graduate study and future success as a manager. Choose individuals who know you well, and who will take the time to write thorough, detailed letters with specific anecdotes and examples, particularly of your leadership potential and personal qualities. We are impressed by what the letter says and how it reads, not by the title of the person who writes it. If you have applied to the Darden MBA program within the previous two years, you are only required to submit one new letter of recommendation from an individual who can provide insight into your professional and personal development since you last applied.
Qualitative accounts of your intellectual and professional abilities are essential to us. As we read your letters of reference, we hope to discover specific descriptions and examples illustrating your potential to make a difference in the world. All letters of reference should be submitted by the deadline of the round in which you apply. Choose individuals who have had significant direct involvement with you within the last few years. Encourage recommenders to write letters specifically for this application since outdated and/or general recommendations typically do not strengthen an application. Strictly academic Letters of Recommendation generally are less helpful in our evaluation. We strongly suggest that your recommenders submit Letters of Recommendation at least one day prior to the application deadline.
Recommendation Questions
1. Please comment on the context of your interaction with the applicant. If applicable, briefly describe the applicant's role in your organization.
2. How does the candidate's performance compare to other well-qualified individuals in similar roles?
3. Please describe the most important piece of constructive feedback you have given the applicant. Please detail the circumstances and the applicant's response.
4. Please make additional statements about the applicant's performance, potential, or personal qualities you believe would be helpful to the MBA Admissions Committee.
